Oslo, Norway’s NILS PETTER has been a writer, director, actor, teacher, and improviser for over 17 years. A quiet and religious upbringing in Lillesand in the South of Norway has led to a messy career within almost all branches of theatre. In the early 2000’s Nils became apart of the improvisational group Samvirkelaget and went on to co-found and be the artistic director of Teater Liksom (Theater Somehow), and later Theatre Isenkram. He has since then performed with several other companies, and in the fall of 2016 he stepped down as the artistic director of Det Andre Teatret (The Other Theatre) in Oslo – the first theatre venue for improvised theatre in Norway) after leading it for it’s five first years. He remains active in the company as an ensemble member.
To sit and laugh together is never going to be old. – Nils Petter Morland
We at NTOW have had the pleasure of working with Nils Petter on several occasions. We first met at The Amsterdam Impro Festival and then again in Wurzburg and became fast friends. Since then we have made a couple trips to perform and teach at the theatre he helped found in Oslo, Det Andre Teatret. We were instantly struck by his open and welcoming demeanour. He has the ability to get the very best out of the people around him and he leads by example. Great people inspire greatness in others.
When we were first asked to perform and teach at Det Andre Teatret it had just opened. The story of how that theatre came to be was truly inspiring. Nils and his team called on their community for support and people arrived to help build, sew seat cushions, cook food, run box office – the sign of a truly beautiful community. Five years later as Nils passes the reigns of AD to Mats Eldoen they are still bursting with ideas and projects to grow their theatre to be even stronger in their city. NTOW feels so lucky to have been part of any stage of this exciting theatre company and to have gotten to know Nils as an artist and as a friend. We can’t wait to see what he does next!
Hot off the presses! A Recent five star review of an improvised Ibsen show by The Norwegian Almost Ibsen Acting Group in London last week.
This was improvisation at its very best. Slick, assured and brilliant…better then scripted stuff!
A short film celebrating Det Andre Teatret’s first five years as a theatre, featuring interviews with Nils (subtitled in english)
